PICOTA & KUMBH: INTRO
Picota & Kumbh start their collaborative career several years ago, leaving all of their individual projects aside. Born in Seville, Spain, they showcase their vision of drum and bass music, realizing releases for labels like Terabyte, Cyclon, Fumei, Kosen, Syndrome Audio, Citrus, Disturbed, Sonic Mechanics and many more. In 2015 the duo debuts for Comanche Records with one of the label's earliest releases. Several months after "Alpha Centauri" EP comes out, Picota & Kumbh return with the labels' latest big release - "Termopilas" EP.
We've prepared an interview with the two artists in which you can find more info about the project. After that, we'll present you the mix that the two Spaniards made for our mix series. You can find the press release info for "Termopilas" EP below, along with all of the necessary links for purchase.

Thanks to Comanche Records's management, we managed to talk with the two artists, sending them a modest amount of questions. Their replies arrived shortly after. In the conversation we talked about the Picota & Kumbh project, its work methods and its development over the years. You can find out a lot about the duo as well as their musical and artistic preferences. Without further ado, we let you experience their words yourself:
Hello, guys! Tell us, how your project was started and what brought you both together?
Hi LowFrequencies! We are two brothers from Spain, Seville. I, Alfredo (Picota) started making music around 16 years old when my little brother Alberto was 8. He always listened my tracks and gave me his opinions. With the time he cared about cinematic music and started making cinematic tracks of his own. One day we tried to combine my bass ´s drops with his cinematic ambience. From this day we began to work together. With who, better than your brother!
Do you have some individual projects, which you are maintain alongside 'Picota & Kumbh' together?
At the moment we work together all the time. We have the same dream, that is live making music together.
What's your favorite method of work? Two men in the studio together or separated individual sessions?
We ever try work together in the studio, but sometimes, is impossible because of the university and the work. The most important thing for us is, that there should always be a person in the studio making “hot material” and so the other one can continuous with the track.
Tell us more about your workplace. Where you are creating your music and what kind of equipment did you prefer?
At the moment we don't have money to have a professional studio. We make music in Picota´s room. We use speakers KRK Rokit 6, Edirol FA66, Virus Snow, sampler EMU6400 and Rolan Sh201. In the future if everything goes fine, we want to invest in analog hardware.
Talking of Music, it is a endless universe. Are you producing any other music genres, besides Drum and Bass?
We are very focused on doing only Drum and bass, because is the music that we like the most.
The genres that inspiring for work are specially Cinematic sounds, BSO and everything related to cinema. Respect to the artist who inspiring us for sure is NOISIA.
Tell us more about the 'Termopilas' EP. How many tracks are included? Are there some guest artists in it?
We are very excited with our new EP in Comanche Records, that will have 5 tracks and one free track. One of these, is our first collab with Mc Coppa and we are really happy with the results. We have spent around three months in doing them.
Besides Comanche, what can we expect from you in near future? Some kind of releases, notorious gigs or online appearances?
We can only say, that we ll continuous working hard to be able to work of the music.
We have some secret projects that will been heart pretty soon :)
At the moment we unfortunately don't have a lot of gigs, we hope it changes little by little.
Do you have anything to add to the interview?
Hope to please everybody with our music and to keep alive Neuro´s Soul.
Thanks for your time! Please, wish something the readers!
Thanks you for this opportunity and we wish the best to them. New projects will see the lights very soon ;))

Comanche Records are back alongside Picota and Kumbh, two names which are synonymous with the type of drum & bass which has made the genre infamous. The producers are two grass roots artists who have time and time again proved they're in tune with its roots, providing music which is both inherently underground and undeniably well structured. For their next offering, they've been taken on by Comanche Records for upcoming EP ‘Termopilas'. The Spanish duo creatively named their forthcoming release after the Battle of Thermopylae and after first listen it's easy to see why. With a host of battle shredded, sonic call to arms as well as crashing drums and arrow-like beats, Picota and Kumbh set the scene and present you with a no holds-barred overview of their sound.
Without hesitation, title-track ‘Termopilas' rolls out first. With oriental atmospherics moving alongside a winding bassline and stabbing synth patterns, clattering drums help to give the mix more power. It's as foreboding as it is intimidating, crashing down a climatic drop and moving you into dancefloor disorder. Then comes ‘Galactic Fear', an ominous ode to the dark power which Picota and Kumbh can conjure between them. Weighty with its slick breaks and a moodily grinding intro, ‘Galactic Fear' once again highlights the energy of their production.
‘Icarus', featuring the dynamic MC Coppa, utilises his grimy vocals over a snapping relay of drums and flying beats. You're never given a reprieve from the track's relentlessness, cranking up a gear following the drop and coming at you from all angles. ‘Pharaon's Corpse' follows the same vibe, tapping into the producer's gloomy soundscape and resurrecting the angry cracklings of electricity which make each of their pieces so recognisable.
And lastly, ‘Tomb of Giants' comes next. Keeping up the EP's theme, the record ends in a crescendo, throwing itself at you with powerful subs and a crunching bassline that flies underneath the mix. If you're looking for a heavyweight soundtrack for your night, Picota and Kumbh have provided exactly that. A force to be reckoned with, the Comanche soldiers go for all-out war with this release. And your aural synapses will be lucky to come out unscathed.
