After the start of the new Takeover season with the eclectic sounds of the Paris trio Apollonia, the series continues. On February 24th Yalta Club invites all fans of the harmonic underground electronic music on a second date with DJ genius Dixon.
It's no secret for anybody, who's interested in the electronic scene, that Resident Advisor our among the most respected content providers in the business. For that reason, when they announce the results for their Top Live Act and Top DJ polls at the end of each calendar year (the former of which our own KiNK wins for the second time in a row), the world shuts up and listens. And what the world has been hearing for the last four years is that Dixon is number one.
The four time winner of Top DJ in the world has been here before, at the invitation of Yalta Club. A little more than two years ago, Dixon opened the Takeover season on 04.10.2014 in Yalta's Room 2. With an unreal five-hour set the German guru showcased why he is the best of the best. In a season which saw Dubfire, Blond:ish, Tiga, Martin Buttrich, Maceo Plex, Chris Liebing, Stacey Pullen, Seth Troxler, Tale of Us, Marcel Dettmann and Deep Dish, among many others, performing at Yalta's events, Dixon made one of the best sets of the bunch, equaled only by the two-hour musical orgasm that was Tale of Us's set.
Dixon's career is a marked success, both on a personal level, as well as on a label level. His label, Innervisions has become synonymous with quality for the past ten years. Not one or two of the biggest underground hits of the past decade have come out of Dixon and Âme's Berlin laboratory. The three of them actually are among the fathers of the movement which seeks a more melodic tech house and techno sound filled with dark nuances which make the crowd feel lost in a different dimension. And Dixon is the best artist there is at making the audience go on a musical journey to the mythical nirvana.
In order to understand what you can expect from the German genius, you can hear his live sets or his personal production and remixes, but arguably the best introduction to his work would be his two Essential mixes - the solo one in 2013 and the b2b session in 2016 with Frank Wiedemann from Âme, who we've actually seen twice already on the Takeover series.
And so, Takeover is back and the guest-DJ is one of the biggest names in the world of electronic music. This time the party will be held in Room 1, not in the underground of Room 2. But, as we wrote in our review of the last Takeover party, this doesn't mean that the dark and intimate setting has been forsaken. Meanwhile, Takeover has announced a Dixon Giveaway, so if you'd like a shot at winning a Temporary Secretary CD or a T-shirt, head on to https://jointhetakeover.com/.
Tickets only at the door at a price of 30 lv ≈ 15 euro. One of our favourites and Yalta Club's resident, Liubo Ursiny, is going to go behind the decks right before Dixon. Facecontrol is on. Be responsible and see you on the 24th.
