ARMIN ONLY: EMBRACE | ARENA ARMEEC
ARMIN ONLY is coming back to Sofia!
After his genius show which the legend of electronic music Armin van Buuren gave us in February 2014, on the 17th of September the brilliant Dutchman is coming back for an even bigger show with more guest-artists, more light effects, more fireworks and more smiles and happiness for the thousands of fans in the stands and on the dancefloor.
Yes, you're going to ask, why is it that a drum and bass based website covers an Armin van Buuren event? The answer is simple - he really IS a legendary DJ. As YALTA CLUB put it recently, even if you don't like his style of music, to doubt his professionalism and his DJ and selector qualities, is ridiculous. We felt obligated to cover arguably the biggest electronic show in Bulgaria this year - even if it's more commercial than most of our target events.
For those who are not aware, Armin van Buuren is a legend of the trance music - a genre, which is not really well-thought of in Bulgaria, where techno, house and drum and bass rule the floors. However, trance fans constitute a small, but extremely united niche of electronic music fans and a number of them regularly organize themselves and crowdfund events with trance DJs - not the biggest of names, but the quality is always assured.
One of the exceptions is, of course, Armin van Buuren. Along with maybe only two acts, which people generally connect to trance - Tiësto (historically, of course) and Above & Beyond, he has the power to fill every stadium, club, hall or beach with thousands of fans. And not only is he a lifelong favourite of the Bulgarian crowd, he himself loves our country - we are one of the few destinations, for which Armin speaks of highly positively and to which he has brought his show A State of Trance and his solo project Armin Only - twice already.
During the years Armin has come to Bulgaria a lot of times, building a strong relationship with YALTA CLUB in Sofia. We have great memories from not one or two parties with the great Dutchman - from the sunrise at CACAO BEACH under the sounds of Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Myon & Shane 54 Bootleg) through the majestic display that was A State of Trance in 2013, during which Armin brought several of the biggest names in trance, to the culmination of the previous Armin Only: Intense - the release of hundreds of enormous inflatable balls, which the audience used to literally play Ping Pong, while Armin played his cult track of the same name.
But what exactly is Armin Only? Every couple of years the producer releases a new artist album. Up until now he has released six, from which the last four have specific concepts - Imagine, Mirage, Intense, Embrace. Although the Armin Only project started earlier, from 2008 it has always been connected to the concept of his recent artist album. And while two years ago the show that we saw was Armin Only: Intense, now comes the new chapter in the journey that is his career - Armin Only: Embrace.
But that is not all. Although in principle his four-hour set will be a solo DJ act, in reality Armin is bringing a whole group of amazing artists, which are going to sing, dance and play live, supporting his DJ act. That makes Armin Only a lot more a Live electronic act, than just a solo DJ set. The artists that you can expect to see and hear on Saturday are the indie rock group Kensington, as well as the singers Mr. Probz (yes, that Mr. Probz), the cult trance vocalists Angel Taylor and Betsie Larkin and Eric Vloeimans and Cimo Fränkel, whose work you can hear on Armin's new album Embrace.
But that still is not the end of it! Armin has chosen our little country to be one of the destinations where he will play a one hour solo vinyl set! Yes, the concept of this one hour is simple - Armin is going to come out alone, without the big spotlights, the fireworks and visual effects and gift us a one-hour old school vinyl set, which is going to bring back the forgotten sound of the classic trance - the genre that ruled clubs, festivals and chart up until the mid-2000s. The genre with which a lot of the electronic music fans in Bulgaria have started their electronic music journeys. The genre which was and sometimes still is played by the likes of Sven Väth и Nina Kraviz. Old school trance is coming back to Bulgaria!
The event's programme is as follows:
22:00 - Club Embrace /warmup show/
00:00 - ARMIN ONLY: Embrace /main show/
04:00 - Armin van Buuren /Vinyl set/
The show will end at about 5 o'clock in the morning and there will not be no after party, unlike the previous Armin Only show, when YALTA CLUB had provided for a quality end of the evening with a set of the British DJ Eddie Halliwell at their club venue.
