Randall has always been about quality music, whether as a selector or as a label head, and is proud to bring to you the Atlantic Boss EP from Shoto, a fast-rising producer and DJ from Manchester.
MAC2DIGI014 encompasses four tracks, each of which show off the producer’s style and influences, which range from electronic music to fighting games and anime. His track Cenobite, alongside Release, saw the light of day on DSC14, and his hard, rolling style is right at home on MAC2Digital. Support has come from the best of the best, people like Doc Scott, Marky, Calibre, Marcus Intalex, and Fabio & Grooverider, amongst many more.
Alice has a dark, deep opening, with the developing beat bouncing off the surrounding atmospherics. Creepy samples introduce the title, as Shoto layers in new sounds along the way. Plenty of feeling and power in the track, this one’ll go down well with ravers and DJs alike. Likewise the title cut, which begins by setting the scene with a held-back saw and background sounds, before the beat drops in and leads the charge. This one builds up to a crescendo, before the bass in the title reveals itself. A really strong tune, if you don’t know Shoto yet you soon will do. Set phasers to stun.
Kira has been premiered by Friction on Radio 1. It’s not hard to see why, as this is an amazing tune with immediate impact. Strong, metallic drums roll around a repeating synth, as Shoto throws everything he’s got into Kira. Touches of old skool appear in sharp breakbeats, and razor-sharp keyboard stabs. The bass is too dark on this one, a track which truly has got it all, and is set to be huge.
Closer Unruly is just that, as a drifting, cool intro morphs into a rolling, funky number which rewrites lessons from the past into the future. The samples fit together perfectly as Shoto shows off another side to his productions. A great way to finish off the Atlantic Boss EP.
