ZERO T

Short Bio:

After 15 years working with a huge spectrum of DnB greats, London based Irishman Cian McCann has long since established his place in the scene. From his early days in Dublin with the Bassbin label to working with the likes of Calibre,4 Hero, Klute, Alix Perez, Rockwell and Noisia, he has never stood still. 2008's Cheap Shots LP for Total Science's CIA Records was a high point, with lead track Walk Away bringing vocalist Steo to the worlds attention.

2010 saw two milestones reached; the Launch of Footprints, Zero T's own label, and compiling and mixing FabricLive052 for the esteemed London venue. After a short period away from the scene, 2014 saw the return of Zero T as a producer/remixer and DJ with a Metalheadz debut and a spate of collaborations with the legendary Fierce on the highly regarded Quarantine

2015 will see the long awaited sophomore album from Zero T, this time coming on Dispatch Recordings, entitled "Golden Section". You can also expect to see original tracks appearing on Soul:r, Shogun Audio , Quarantine, MetalheadzFokuz, Integral/Spearhead and Citrus.

INTERVIEW

Hello, Cian! You've been part of the DnB scene for 15 years now. In what extent did the sound of Drum and Bass alter over the years?

Hello! The main difference between when I started releasing music was that it was still a novelty for DNB to come from outside of the UK. Now it seems to be all over the world, which shows how strong this music is! The music has settled into an accepted style in the last 15 years but part of me misses the days when each producer sounded completely from each other.

You enjoy experimenting with music and your production covers many different sub-genres of DnB. What's your type of DnB, what's your sound? Speaking of producing and sub-genres do you have anything like a "comfort zone"?

I am not a fan of sub genres at all. When I was a teenager in the 90s each dj would play a selection of moods and styles in one set. Doc Scott did a famous mix CD for Mix Mag in 1997, its a perfect example of what I see as drum and bass: from the lightest, most beautifully melodic songs into the dark beats and bass – its that contrast that hooked me on DnB. This idea is what drives both my productions and djing. If I had to describe my style I would say “Drum and Bass at the deeper end of the spectrum” . I enjoy making different vibes of tracks, and I think this shows in my back catalogue, with soulful tracks made with Calibre and Alix Perez, to darker techier sounds with the likes of Fierce, Rockwell and Ulterior Motive. Variety is the spice!!

You are about to release the "Golden Section LP" for Dispatch Recordings. Could you fill us in on the album. How many tracks does it include? Which other artists took part in the production?

The 12” singles are out now featuring two of the more musical tracks on the LP, backed with great remixes from Lenzman and DLR.

The full LP comes out on Oct 2nd as 2 x 3 track EP vinyl’s and the full digital bundle. There is also a lovely T Shirt available from the Dispatch Website.

The full LP, including  remixes and bonus tracks, is 18 traks. Other artists featuring on the LP are my old friend (but new music partner) Fierce and my oldest collaborator Beta 2.

What's the message behind the album?

There was no grand concept or message behind the LP...I just started writing tracks and ended up with an LP.. I liked Golden Section as a title .. and the mathematical theory that it refers to is a very interesting subject to learn about.. its almost like it is the code for natural form and beauty – once you read about it, you start seeing it everywhere!

You're about to present the LP to the Bulgarian listeners on the 25th of September in Sofia. What are your expectations for the event?

This is my 1st time in Bulgaria, so I am excited to step into the unknown. I have always enjoyed playing in that part of the world...the people know how to party !!

Do you know anything about the Drum and Bass scene here? Have you heard of any Bulgarian artists?

Not yet!!!! but I am looking forward to learning all about it this weekend!

After visiting us where will this album take you?

I think the next stops are Tallin in Estonia and Star Warz in Ghent, Belgium and then on to Dresden in Germany after that. I will also be heading to New Zealand and Australia in December.

Thank you for your time! Wish something to the readers!

If you like deep, musical and rolling drum and bass then come down and party with us on the 25th!!
